Legislative Push for Crypto Market Structure
The Trump administration is actively supporting passage of the Crypto Clarity Act, with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent urging the Senate to immediately vote on the landmark market structure bill. Bessent invoked Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto in his plea for the legislation, accusing Democrats of delaying the bill for political reasons. Republican Senator Cynthia Lummis has similarly criticized Democrats for stalling the Clarity Act, stating the measure could have passed months earlier.
The window for passage before a month-long Senate recess is narrowing, and ethics provisions remain a dividing issue among lawmakers. Senators have sent revised ethics rules to the White House related to the bill as negotiations continue. The Clarity Act represents an effort to establish comprehensive regulatory clarity for the crypto market structure, a stated priority of the current administration.
