Executive and Congressional Push on Clarity Act
President Trump has pressed crypto industry executives to pass a "fair version" of the Clarity Act, signaling White House backing for legislative clarity on digital asset regulation. The bill, which would establish clearer jurisdictional boundaries between agencies, faces a critical vote window with concerns that reopening settled provisions could jeopardize passage. Summer Mersinger, CEO of the Blockchain Association, warned that revisiting a settled provision just four weeks before a vote risks sinking the measure entirely.
The timing reflects broader administration messaging that regulatory certainty is a priority. However, the legislative path remains contested, with different stakeholder groups holding divergent views on what constitutes a "fair" framework.
Agency Regulatory Actions and Enforcement
The CFTC has escalated its regulatory posture, announcing it will write its own crypto rules if the Clarity Act stalls in Congress. Simultaneously, the agency ordered a trading ban for former Alameda and FTX executives, continuing enforcement actions against figures tied to the collapsed exchange. These moves signal the agency's intent to act unilaterally if legislative solutions do not materialize.
