Executive Branch and Treasury Move Forward on Stablecoin Regulation
The US Treasury Department has formally requested public input on proposed rules implementing the GENIUS Act, a landmark stablecoin bill signed into law last year. The regulatory framework is scheduled to take effect in January 2027, and the Treasury's move to advance rulemaking now signals determination to meet that deadline with finalized guidance. The proposal would establish core definitions and jurisdictional boundaries for stablecoin issuance and sales.
Separately, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency granted conditional approval for World Liberty Financial's charter application for a trust company. The approval came as ten Democratic lawmakers introduced legislation aimed at preventing corruption in banking applications, suggesting continued bipartisan scrutiny of crypto-adjacent financial institutions even as some advance through regulatory channels.
