Legislative Stalemate on Market Structure Bill
The Crypto Clarity Act, a bipartisan bill designed to establish federal market structure rules for digital assets, has been delayed indefinitely as Senate leadership redirects floor time to other legislation. According to CoinDesk, the majority leader is pursuing votes on unrelated bills, leaving the crypto industry's primary policy priority awaiting its chance for consideration.
Industry advocates have called for urgent action. Coinbase Chief Policy Officer Faryar Shirzad characterized the Clarity Act as "extraordinarily bipartisan," urging Democrats and Republicans to vote on the measure. However, Republican Senator Dave McCormick indicated that Democratic opposition is slowing momentum, telling Fox Business that party dynamics are preventing progress despite claimed bipartisan support.
The delay has also drawn criticism from state regulators. New York Attorney General Letitia James warned that the Clarity Act could restrict state-level crypto enforcement authority and urged Congress to impose stronger consumer protections on digital asset platforms before passing federal market structure rules. This tension between state and federal regulatory jurisdiction remains unresolved.
