Congress and the CLARITY Act
The National Sheriffs' Association has shifted its position on the CLARITY Act from active opposition to neutral, announcing it will 'step back and allow the legislative process to proceed.' The law enforcement organization had previously opposed the bill citing consumer protection concerns, warning that it would shield crypto-related crime.
The pivot removes a significant institutional voice from the opposition camp and may ease passage of the bill through Congress. The CLARITY Act, which aims to establish clearer regulatory boundaries for digital assets, had faced resistance from law enforcement groups concerned about its implications for criminal investigations and asset recovery.
Regulatory Developments in Digital Asset Markets
Kalshi, a platform offering event contracts, has experienced accelerating regulatory scrutiny even as its U.S. web traffic surged more than 1,500% in less than a year, with trading volume growing at an even faster pace. The platform faces legal questions regarding its sports-related contracts, highlighting ongoing tensions between market demand and regulatory boundaries.
Internationally, South Korea's financial regulator has introduced a three-phase roadmap for tokenized asset issuance, positioning the country to adopt its first tokenized securities framework in February 2027. This development reflects a broader global trend toward formalizing the treatment of blockchain-based securities and establishing clear compliance pathways for digital asset innovation.
