Fed Hawkish Hold Signals Extended Rate Pause, Not Imminent Cuts
The Federal Reserve extended its policy pause with no new signals on when rate cuts or hikes might occur, keeping the federal funds rate at 3.5%–3.75%. Market participants were split on whether the central bank would hike, but Chair Kevin Warsh's tone was interpreted by analysts as notably hawkish—a shift that changes the calculus for risk assets including crypto.
The ambiguity is deliberate. With no clear policy roadmap from Warsh yet articulated, markets remain in a holding pattern. This uncertainty typically pressures longer-duration assets and those priced on zero-rate scenarios. Bitcoin's modest 0.2% gain over 24 hours reflects cautious consolidation rather than conviction, even as traditional equities—the Dow fell 2.2% and the Nasdaq hit a three-month low—experienced sharper selloff.
