Stablecoins enter mainstream financial products
Ethena has introduced a self-custodial payments application bringing its USDe stablecoin to consumers across 48 countries, according to Cointelegraph. The platform enables users to earn up to 6% annualized rewards on holdings while accessing everyday financial services including payments, savings accounts, and cross-border transfers.
According to CoinDesk, the application—branded as Ethena Pay—offers additional incentives including 5% cashback on card transactions. The platform leverages the Avalanche blockchain for settlement, positioning itself as an alternative to traditional banking services while maintaining cryptocurrency's accessibility features.
The launch reflects growing competition among stablecoin issuers to expand beyond trading and speculation use cases into consumer finance. By bundling yield-generating features with payment functionality, Ethena aims to create sticky user engagement similar to traditional fintech banking applications.
