Congressional Action Falters Ahead of Recess
The Crypto Clarity Act risks significant delay as lawmakers prepare to break for over one month, with the legislation unlikely to receive a floor vote before the recess period begins. The stall comes as Tyler Williams, identified as Treasury Secretary Bessent's top crypto adviser and a key architect of the Trump administration's digital asset agenda, is departing from the Treasury Department. This departure occurs as Congress struggles to advance the landmark crypto legislation intended to clarify regulatory jurisdiction between the SEC and CFTC.
Analysts at Bernstein have signaled that failure to pass the Clarity Act this year would likely trigger another leg down for crypto valuations. However, the same analysts expect U.S. regulators to accelerate rulemaking efforts independent of Congressional action, suggesting the regulatory landscape may continue to evolve even without legislative clarity.
