Fed Hawkishness Pressures Risk Assets Across the Board
Bitcoin declined 1.87% over the last 24 hours to $77,258, reversing some of August's 24% monthly gain as market participants reprice expectations for U.S. Federal Reserve policy. The broader weakness extends to altcoins—Ethereum, Solana, TRON, and Dogecoin all shed ground during the same period—a pattern consistent with renewed hawkish positioning from the Fed. Higher-for-longer rate expectations compress valuations across risk assets, including crypto, by raising the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding or low-yielding positions.
This repricing occurs against a backdrop of persistent Treasury yields and dollar strength, both of which typically inverse to crypto appetite. When real rates remain elevated and the dollar stable or climbing, capital rotates toward fixed-income and currency positions, draining liquidity from speculative markets. The near-term pressure on majors reflects this macro headwind rather than idiosyncratic weakness.
