Legislative Progress on Crypto Regulation
The Clarity Act is gaining traction in Congress with support crossing party lines, according to Coinbase's Chief Policy Officer Faryar Shirzad. Speaking on The Hill's morning Rising show, Shirzad characterized crypto as "maybe the most bipartisan issue in Washington" and predicted the bill would advance despite opposition from some older Democrats. The legislation aims to establish clear regulatory frameworks for digital assets, addressing a long-standing gap in US policy.
Stablecoin issuers are simultaneously expanding their regulatory footprint. Circle, the issuer of USDC, secured a New York trust charter and earlier obtained federal approval to establish a national trust bank. These licenses permit Circle to offer fiduciary and custody services, signaling regulatory acceptance of stablecoin platforms that meet banking standards.
